OMA Home > Volunteer Be a Volunteer Oceanside Museum of Art is a cultural jewel located in downtown Oceanside with a view of the Pacific Ocean and the historic Oceanside Pier. OMA Needs YOU! Volunteers are the mainstay of Oceanside Museum of Art and your help is needed. The museum celebrated the Grand Opening of its new Central Pavilion and inaugural exhibition, Masterpieces of San Diego Painting: Fifty Works from Fifty Years, 1900-1950, with an Open House on March 2, 2008. The museum has grown from 5,000 sq. ft. to 21,000 sq. ft and includes exhibition galleries, reception lobby, administrative offices, and exhibit preparation workshops. During the next few months the museum will be adding to its volunteer staff to meet the expected increase in attendance. The new space requires a larger volunteer presence to welcome visitors at the reception desk, to staff the expanded museum store, and to provide security in the galleries. OMA volunteers work once a week, once a month or every other week for a three hour assignment. Reception desk volunteers greet visitors and distribute fliers and brochures about museums programs. Museum Store volunteers greet visitors and shoppers, and ring up sales. Previous retail experience is not required, only a smile and an outgoing attitude. Security volunteers stroll through the galleries ensuring the safety of the artwork and directing visitors to exhibition information. Volunteering at Oceanside Museum of Art is a great way to meet people and be a part of the museum. Ask a friend to volunteer with you and make it an opportunity to get together and stay in touch. You will become acquainted with the art and artists of the region as well as your neighbors in the community. The museum is leading the wave of change in Oceanside that is evident by the vibrant arts and cultural life developing in downtown Oceanside.
