Daytime, evening and weekend classes provide the opportunity for brushing up on tried and true techniques or sparking the flames for further innovations. Classes are regularly scheduled in watercolor, acrylic and oil painting, ceramic sculpture, drawing, drumming, art quilts, book arts and fiber art. Award winning watercolorist Helen Shafer Garcia has a long exhibition history both locally and in galleries in Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is an illustrator for San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles and has illustrated several travel brochures for resorts such as the Westin St. John, Acapulco Diamante, La Quinta Resort, and Marriott Desert Springs Resort to name a few. She holds a BA in Fine Art from Cal State Long Beach with additional study at Otis-Parsons School of Art and Design. Helen is currently the director of the OMA School of Art and the museum’s after school art outreach program. She is an exhibiting member of the San Diego Watercolor Society and of 10 North Gallery in Escondido.
Ricky teaches workshops for the San Diego School District on Afro-Cuban Folklore and for the Oceanside Museum of Art Outreach Program in Oceanside and Vista schools. As Conguero, he teaches at the OMA School of Art along with his father, Timbalero, Romeo Carrido. He is currently working on a recording project with Luna Llena as well as several upcoming television performances.
Romeo started his professional career in Los Angeles backing up singing groups such as Sonny and Cher, The Drifters, and The Coasters. He spent years performing Mainstream Jazz, Afro-Cuban Jazz, and Brazilian Samba with artists such as Jesus Diaz, Edgardo Cambon, Rafael Ramirez and Flip Nunez. Romeo currently teaches conga, sax, flute, bass, piano, and drums. He also leads the Cuban Salsa group “Luna Llena” with his son Ricky Carrido.

Alessandra Colfi has been teaching art and its therapeutic effects for over seven years. She is the Associate Director of the Expressive Arts Therapy Department at the International University of Professional Studies and has a Bachelors degree in Linguistics and a Masters degree in Fine Art. Alessandra teaches in all media using a variety of techniques.
"Expressive Arts" provides the opportunity to explore and experiment with a variety of media developing ideas and art in a relaxed, supportive environment. All skill levels are welcome from novice to professional.

Claire-Lise came to California in 1989 and began exhibiting
her work in many galleries. She was educated at the School
of Visual Arts Ceruleum and at the Atelier Martenot, both
in Switzerland. Her paintings have won numerous awards in
national and international watercolor and experimental art
exhibitions. Claire-Lise’s work develops slowly with
the addition of multiple layers of color and texture. She
uses personal symbols and antiquity resulting in a feeling
of depth and complexity.

Tony has exhibited in the U.S. and internationally. His miniature teapots were recently accepted into the Small Teapot Competition, “Da Yu Xiao Hu 2” in Mission Viejo, California. He is an associate faculty member at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California where he teaches printmaking. Tony has taught ceramics at the OMA School of Art for 7 years.

Christie works in a variety of media and techniques including yarn, fabric, and wire. She makes one-of-a-kind artworks as well as woven wire jewelry. Christie’s work has been juried in local, national and international exhibitions. Her work has been published in the following magazines: American Craft, Handwoven, FiberArts, FiberArts Design Book Five, International Textile Design, Shuttle Spindle and Dyepot, and Surface Design Journal. She holds an MFA in Studio Art/Fiber with an emphasis in Textile Techniques in Metal from San Diego State University.

Carol Lang began making baskets in Michigan in the early 1980s. Since retiring to California her creative pursuits have been in basketry, gourd art and ceramics. Her work appears in local galleries and has been juried into national and international exhibitions. Her work has won awards at the Association of Michigan Basketmakers annual exhibition, the California Gourd Society, and the San Diego Fine Arts Expositions.
