The Next Step Campaign

Oceanside Museum of Art is more than a museum. The dedication of a community helped realize the dream of establishing OMA in 1995 and growing it to include a three-level, 25,000 square foot addition completed in 2008. Today OMA continues to thrive and embolden its status within the community and is ready to grow again. The Next Step Campaign will allow the Museum to continue building its educational community programing and start its second phase of expansion, including: preparation for expansion into the adjacent fire station building.

In addition to its dynamic exhibitions OMA presents an extensive array of programming for a range of audiences including youth school groups, young art professionals, senior citizens and more. Essential goals for the Next Step Campaign include expanding OMA’s art education programs to serve as a place for lifelong learning through the direct experience of art.

Our mission is to educate and inspire the public through a diverse range of engaging exhibitions and programs that connect people with regional, national and global artists and art forms of the 20th and 21st centuries. We continue to build capacity and lay claim as the most important and vibrant cultural institution in the area. As we take this next step in our evolution, we invite your support.

There are several ways to support OMA with a monetary donation or gift of property. These gifts—whether to our Annual Fund, or made as a planned gift—help ensure the Museum’s future as a center of cultural and creative energy in North County and the surrounding region. Your generous gift is vitally important, making the exhibitions, arts education and public programs you enjoy possible. You can make your donation online today, or contact our This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Annual Fund Donations

OMA is more than a museum; it’s an arts and culture hub that serves residents of San Diego, Orange and Riverside Counties and beyond. Gifts to the Museum’s Annual Fund are essential to OMA, providing funds for what you see in the galleries, what you experience at our events and what happens behind the scenes. You can make a one-time gift, or you can pledge to make a larger gift by spreading payments over several months or throughout a year. No matter the size of your gift, your unrestricted donation is the most important support the Museum receives. Your Annual Fund gift provides the Museum with the flexibility to allocate funds where they are needed most, so the Museum can continue to excite, engage, and educate our community and visitors for future generations.

Endowment Gifts

Endowment gifts provide critical support in perpetuity. One of the best ways to support the Museum is to make it part of your planned giving strategy. Such a gift creates a lasting legacy of the donor’s personal values that can be passed on to future generations. Individuals need only inform the Museum of their intent to name OMA in their planned giving to become a member of the OMA Visionary Society, named for the many visionary individuals that have made a commitment to the future of OMA. There are several ways to make a planned gift to OMA. Some forms of planned gifts include bequests, gifts of stock or real estate, estate gifts, life insurance policies, living trusts and gift annuities. Please consult with an attorney, tax advisor, or estate planner to maximize the tax advantages of your gift.

Memorial Gifts

Memorial gifts can be made in honor of a loved one. These gifts recognize a special person, commemorate a birthday or anniversary, or help establish and preserve someone’s legacy. Memorial gifts to OMA are allocated to where the support is needed most.

Planned Gifts—OMA Visionary Society

Oceanside Museum of Art has a growing permanent collection of works from the 20th and 21st century including paintings, sculpture, photography, drawings, and prints. OMA’s collecting activity focuses primarily on American art, with an emphasis on regional contemporary art and West Coast art. Gifts of art are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Gifts of art that do not fit with our collecting guidelines may also be accepted but not retained in perpetuity. If you have works that you are considering donating to the Museum please call Danielle Susalla Deery, at (760) 435-3722 to learn more about OMA’s guidelines and review process for art donations.

Gifts of Property

A gift of personal property (stock, jewellery, real estate) is another way to benefit yourself and OMA. Giving stocks, mutual funds, or bonds to OMA might save you from paying substantial capital gains taxes, since you can deduct the full current market value from your federal taxes as a charitable gift. For further information consult your professional tax specialist.

Gifts of Stock or Securities

Gifts of stock or other securities such as bonds can help you maximize your philanthropic giving while minimizing taxes on capital gains. An Outright Gift of Appreciated Stock enables the donor to obtain substantial tax benefits. First, donors receive an income tax deduction equal to the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift. In addition, no capital gains tax is due when the Museum sells the stock, so the full value of the gift supports the Museum's work.

Appreciated stock is also an excellent asset to use for funding a gift plan that provides income for life. Because charity will benefit in the future from the principal of the gift, capital gains tax is avoided when appreciated stock donated into the plan is sold to reinvest for higher income.
